Rey’s identity in "Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi" has been one of the highly speculated topics about the movie. There were previous theories surrounding where she came from and what role she is going to play in the story. A new leak making the rounds online might have revealed her true identity. According to the recent buzz, Rey’s parentage in the film might have been spilled by actress Daisy Ridley.

Is Rey Luke's daughter?

Theorists and other fans previously speculated that Luke Skywalker’s long lost daughter might be the scavenger, Rey. According to several fans, Luke Skywalker could have possibly kept a close watch on Rey while she was growing up.

That moment when he faced his daughter in the last part of Episode VII showed that he was overwhelmed. However, Ridley, in one of her interviews, poured cold water on this theory when she said that Luke did not even have a clue who she was when they met.

The actress was quoted saying that their characters are somewhat similar. She said that both are given high expectations because of their potential. She also noted that in "Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi" the dynamic slightly changed. She added that in this movie, fans will see Rey expecting something from Luke, and how he reacts to that remains to be seen.

The actress' revelation does not necessarily discount the possibility of Rey being the daughter of Luke Skywalker.

However, it suggests the fact that Ridley's character is a total stranger to the old Jedi when she shows up after tracking him down. Currently, we cannot conclude anything yet as this is purely speculation and still unconfirmed by the people behind the movie. More light will be shed on this when the movie is out in theaters.

Theories about Rey

There are several theories about the character of Rey. Reportedly, she is the younger sister of Kylo Ren. Another claim is that she is perhaps Han Solo and Princess Leia’s daughter -- while other theories from fans speculate that she is Emperor Palpatine’s granddaughter. Moreover, a wilder guess says that she is the reincarnation of Anakin Skywalker, also known as Darth Vader.

Meanwhile, the new star in "Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi," Laura Dern, sees the movie as an empowerment for women, and minorities as well. She noted that women are not just a part of the movie but the story also revolves around them. The actress was quoted as saying that she is proud to be a part of the movie. "Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi" is set to hit theaters on December 15, 2017.
