Showtime now announced the official air date of Ray Donovan” Season 5 on Aug. 6 with 12 new episodes. The show’s titular character played by Liev Schreiber is set to be back to Hollywood and once again manage his celebrity fixer firm.

There will be new relationships, enemies, and mending of broken trusts happening as the 49-year-old actor teased the coming of a darker chapter. Also, Oscar winner and four-time Emmy nominee Susan Sarandon is set to join the show.

Other guest stars coming revealed

The 70-year-old actress will play the role of the iconic media mogul named Samantha Winslow in “Ray Donovan” Season 5.

She will be setting Ray up against her own fixers as she is starting to fear that they already know too much.

Ray, too, will be welcoming Mickey (Jon Voight) into his home as he promises to fix all his criminal ways. Aside from Sarandon, Brian White, Adina Porter, Rhys Coiro, Lili Simmons, Tara Buck, C. Thomas Howell, and Dominique Columbus will be the crime drama series’ guest stars this season.

Schreiber teases dark days approaching Ray

Meanwhile, while promoting his latest film “Chuck,” Schreiber talked about the future of “Ray Donovan” Season 5 in an interview with Collider. He promptly teased that the upcoming new installment will be a darker one compared to the previous chapters that he had done.

As the “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” star is now in the middle of filming the television series, he revealed that it is a shocker. “It is a shocker,” he said. However, he added that he couldn't say that much about the show’s storyline as there are “critical” things happening this season. But, he just keeps hinting that it will be a very dark year for his character.

The “Kate & Leopold” actor also discussed the coming of Sarandon in the show. Although details of the role of “The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe” actress has yet to be revealed, he said that she would play as someone who he has to work for. Her character is also the one responsible for changing Ray’s life today.

The intense film-like production

Moreover, Schreiber is surprised that her television series run for five seasons. And although he feels fortunate that it is loved by the many, he has to take its consequences by filming half a movie-like in just ten days. He also said that the show’s cast and crew are already like a family to him and he finds the five years they have shared very wonderful. The theme of “Ray Donovan” Season 5 continues to feature the love of a family. Thus it is not surprising that they are all well bonded together.
