Normani Kordei and partner Val Chmerkovskiy are one of three couples going into the finals on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" on Monday, May 22. The other two couples are Rashad Jennings with partner Emma Slater, as well as David Ross with his partner Lindsay Arnold.
Last week Normani earned a perfect score of 40 for her jazz routine. She has remained at the top of the leaderboard most of the season. Hopefully, her foot injury on Thursday will not affect her dancing during Monday night's finale.
Normani's injury
Normani twisted her right ankle during rehearsal just days before the finale.
TMZ says she is in pain but she is fighting through it. An ABC video shows the dancers rehearsing a lift. As Normani lands, she twists her ankle. Then Val is seen putting ice on his partner's foot. On Friday, she was seen on social media with her ankle wrapped.
The good news is that it has been reported that even with the injury, the 20-year-old singer is still rehearsing to perform in the finals. It is also good news that during the finals, the couples perform a freestyle routine. That means Normani and Val can change their dance to compensate for the foot injury. On any other episode, they would have been given a specific dance to perform. Val is an excellent choreographer and no doubt he will do what's best for them while keeping the injured ankle in mind.
This is not Normani's first injury this season. Earlier she danced through back pain. Fans expect her to be just fine during Monday's performance.
Intense season
Even though she is at the top of the leaderboard, this has been an intense season for the Fifth Harmony singer. She traveled out of the country twice during the first few weeks.
Also, she opened up about how she has been bullied all her life. It became so terrible that she withdrew from social media for a while. She shared her story on ABC's "Nightline" that received a lot of attention.
Shocking eliminations
There have been a lot of shocking eliminations this season on "Dancing with the Stars." Last week was the biggest one when Simone Biles and Sasha Farber were eliminated.
David Ross, who is in the finals, said he felt that he took Simone's place. Apparently, Ross has been getting the votes from viewers to keep him in the competition because he hasn't been getting high scores from the judges.
A lot of good dancers have been eliminated who people thought would go all the way to the end. It shocked fans the week Heather Morris and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were eliminated. Based on that, no one can predict with accuracy if Normani, Rashad or David will win the Mirror Ball trophy.
