Hey, "Blue Bloods" fans. It is time for you guys to officially rejoice if you haven't heard the news yet. Yep, it's true. We recently got confirmation that your favorite show is due back for a new season 8 from a couple of sources, which include: TV LIne and The Hollywood Reporter! This fantastic news means that you can, indeed, expect to see new spoilers, episode photos, sneak peek clips, cast interviews, and all that good stuff to come down the pipeline in the upcoming weeks and months, so you'll definitely want to keep an eye out.
Lot of confidence
We're hopeful that we'll see some initial spoiler dish get spilled this week, sometime, when the press hits up the showrunners for some scoops on the upcoming, new season. Cross your fingers. Also, it turns out that CBS definitely had a lot of confidence in their long running drama, giving it the early green light way back in late March 2017. Along with Blue Bloods, CBS gave early renewals to some of their other long-running shows: Hawaii Five-0, Life in Pieces, Madam Secretary, Mom, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans and Scorpion, NCIS, and their hit comedy, The Big Bang Theory.
Some first season shows that made it through the cut, include: Michael Weatherly's new show: "Bull," Kevin Can Wait, MacGyver, Man With a Plan and Superior Donuts.
We'll also see their hit reality show, Survivor, show back up for yet another, new season , along with 60 Minutes and 48 Hours. Elementary, Criminal Minds, and Code Black are all on the bubble, right now, meaning they could get the boot. Some of those have quite a few seasons under their belt, especially Criminal Minds with 12 seasons, so that's a pretty huge deal.
Top performing show
Anyways, getting back to Blue Bloods. Here's why CBS had so much confidence in it to give it an early renewal. The Hollywood Reporter tells us that it's just been a very solid numbers performer in its Friday night time slot. So much, in fact, that it's actually the top performing show on Friday nights, pulling in a 1.8 rating for the 18-49 age demographic and about 13.8 million viewers per episode when you factor in the seven days of delayed viewing.
Number of episodes and premiere date speculation
Currently, there's no detailed information about the renewal in regards to how many episodes season 8 will offer up and what day the big premiere date will land on. We expect to get all that information pretty soon, though, like in the next month or two. Season 7 received a 22 episode order, so a good educated guess, would say, they'll probably get that same amount again. Also, season 7 premiered in late September 2016. Judging by that, we'll more than likely, see season 8 make its big debut around that same time frame this year. But again, official confirmations are coming in the next month or two, so be sure to keep a watch-out for those, and stay tuned.
