James Bond movies are considered to be iconic and have already secured their place in Hollywood and the film industry worldwide.

Several leading men have played the role of the dapper Agent Double 007, with Daniel Craig as the latest actor to have worn his suit. However, in the last installment of the said franchise, the 49-year old actor has released a statement that he would rather slit his wrists than reprise the role for future movies.

Given the fact that the said statement was released just a few days after the movie production wrapped up, and sources close to the English actor stated that he was overfatigued and felt worn out physically, emotionally and mentally - not to mention, he has been away from his family for a year just to shoot the film.

That said, the chances for Daniel Craig to reprise his role in the new James Bond movie are pretty slim. Although this might come as a disappointment to fans, it is also an opportunity for the franchise to welcome another actor in the already impressive list of Double 007 agents.

Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender, possible replacements for Daniel Craig

According to reports, producers for the movie are already scouting for potential actors to play the lead role should Daniel Craig decide not to reprise his role as James Bond. Top choices include Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender, Tom Hiddleston, Ryan Gosling and Aidan Turner.

Based on the betting odds, Tom Hardy is reportedly the crowd favorite while Michael Fassbender and Aidan Turner are tied in the second place.

Other actors that are following the trail include Idris Elba and James Norton.

Why Tom Hardy became the crowd favorite

Getting the popular vote to play the lead role in the upcoming James Bond Movie is definitely an honor and means that the public recognizes his talent. Such is the case for Tom Hardy, who, basing on his past projects, is apparently a perfect understudy for Double 007.

Having starred in movies like "Legend," "The Revenant" and "Mad Max: Fury Road," Tom Hardy is not a newbie in heavy action and tough roles.

He also has no problem maintaining a dapper aura despite heavy action scenes, which is pretty much what James Bond is all about - dapper yet deadly.

Goodbye Daniel Craig?

According to reports, producers of James Bond movie are not waiting around for Daniel Craig's decision. In fact, they are reportedly finalizing the list of possible actors to replace the "Skyfall" actor should he decide to retire from the franchise.
