Being part of the Billboard Music Awards is considered to be an honor, especially for the artists who are not in the U.S. This is why fans of BTS have been on cloud nine since the band won an award from the prestigious award-giving body.
The 2017 Billboard Music Awards will be an unforgettable moment for the members of the South Korean boy group as they were awarded the Top Social Artist during the event. It was the first time that a K-pop group received an award from the award-giving body and has truly made the fans of BTS beaming with pride. The all-boys K-pop group bested music industry heavyweights like Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes and Ariana Grande.
The Billboard award for Top Social Artist was a fan-voted category, which belies the fact that BTS honestly has amassed a huge number of fans all over the world to have bested international artists like Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. According to reports, the said award has opened a lot of doors for the K-pop group as its managers work out more international ventures and exposures.
Bangtan Boys did not expect win
Even though the Bangtan Boys know that they are very popular in South Korea and other parts of Asia, they did not expect to win an award at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. In fact, sources close to the K-pop group revealed that they were not expecting to win against Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes and Ariana Grande.
According to reports, Rap Monster, one of the members of BTS revealed that they couldn't believe it when the name of their group was called as the winner. Winning the Top Social Artist award was the highlight of their night, but according to Rap Monster, the support of their fans in and out of the venue was already enough for the group.
International fans of Bangtan Boys continue to multiply
When they bagged the 2017 Billboard Top Social Artist award, new doors of opportunities opened up for the BTS boys. Having a multitude of fans in South Korea and neighboring Asian countries is nice, but to be recognized and awarded in the U.S. definitely, takes the popularity of BTS to a higher level.
During a candid moment backstage, the Bangtan Boys were pleasantly surprised when they found out that Celine Dion's son, Rene-Charles Angelil, is an avid fan of their K-pop group. The 16-year old took the chance to have a photo with the BTS members saying that he likes them and that they're "pretty good."
