This might be the question ramping in the thoughts of "Big Little Lies" fans. However, their hopes may spark again from what seems to be a teaser for the second season from the BLL star herself, Reese Witherspoon.

Witherspoon posted on her official Instagram account, a photo of her with her co-stars in the series, Laura Dern and Nichole Kidman. The caption says, 'working on some new lies.' The post was not taken by fans sitting down.
For them, the post is a hint of a possible sequel to the short-lived series “Big Little Lies.” The actress even associated it with the iconic monkeys that mean 'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.' It was known to all the avid followers of the series that its ending was artistically well-plotted to leave a perfectly lasting effect on their hearts. However, they can’t just get enough of the charms of all the characters in the story.
The cast
How can one possibly ignore the acting prowess of Nicole Kidman, Shailene Wodley, Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz and of course, Reese Witherspoon? Since the series ended early April, fans are hoping to see once again, the women of Monterey, California in Season 2.
Lian Moriarty, the author of the book from where the series was adapted, expressed that she is open to the idea of making a sequel for the show. For her, either a new book is possible or a new story perhaps.
No season 2?
Though the fans are expressive in anticipating the second season of the mini-series from HBO, its director and also executive producer Jean-Marc Valle is determined that the story has come to its perfect ending and with that for him, there is no need to entertain a possible sequel to the show.
He wants to work with the cast of the show once again, maybe in another production but not in the show’s season 2.
“Big Little Lies” season 1 finale closed in an open-ended way. The finale was shown in a way that the viewers will have the time to think of the next possible thing that might happen. With this premise, a sequel will just spoil the artistry demonstrated in that beautiful finale.
On the contrary, Witherspoon and Kidman are much in favor for the show to extend. As both actresses are executive producers of the series, they want the franchise to continue. The series astounded its fans with surprising twists and turns in the story through the talented novelist Lian Moriarty.
