Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) final statement in the new trailer for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” sends fans into a frenzy. As he hinted that it is the “time for the Jedi to end” added with the movie’s title, some deem that it will end with him.
In fact, the film’s director Rian Johnson already confirmed that the movie’s eighth episode is about Luke. However, if this will be the end of the Jedi, some question the future of the epic film franchise.
The coming of Gray Jedi
According to Cinema Blend, little details about the film are now emerging, and it hints that “Star Wars” is trying to move away from the story of the Jedi and the Sith.
It has been known that the film is about the battle of the light and the dark side but from the looks of it, it is trying to take a different path.
Hence, it wouldn’t be a battle of black and white anymore but the coming of the Gray Jedi. The said species of the Force-sensitive individual is not new to the “Star Wars” world, although it has not been introduced yet in movies or TV series. But, there are now proofs that it is about to become the sole focus of the trilogy.
The introduction
The Gray Jedi is a force that can make use of the both the light and the dark sides of the Force without following either of its paths. It is also the Jedi that can work outside the Jedi Council and doesn’t have to stick to the standard rules and regulations of it.
Technically, they are more a Jedi than a Sith, although they are known for doing their own thing than mingling with their group’s business. In fact, they can be seen as the combination of the two. A Force user with the power of a Sith, but bearing the morality and honor of a Jedi.
With the ability to use the both sides of the Force, the Gray Jedi has the capability of using several Force powers.
They, too, are adept at using the Jedi Mind Trick. As they are very powerful, they are always on the verge of being in the light or in the dark side.
Subtle hints of Gray Jedi’s coming
There are subtle hints that “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is about to introduce the Gray Jedi. As a matter of fact, Rey (Daisy Ridley) is seen wearing a gray outfit that might be connected to its introduction.
Luke, too, is introduced sporting a bright white attire before he started wearing an all-black apparel hinting his turn to the dark side.
The movie’s poster also bears some clue as Rey holds her lightsaber emerging blue light that eventually turns into red toward the top. This might just hint that it is trying to get a balance that is often heard in the teaser. Lastly, her position in the middle of Luke’s light side and Kylo Ren’s (Adam Driver) dark side may mean that she is not yet sure which path to take; thus she might be the Gray Jedi.
