"Shadowhunters" has not aired the second half of Season 2 yet, but fans have already been eager to learn of its fate for season 3. After reports last week that freeform had quietly renewed the series, many assumed that the announcement would come at Freeform's Upfronts Presentation in New York this past Wednesday, April 19.
But no one from the cast was present because of filming (which happens in Toronto), and there wasn't any mention of the series during Freeform's presentation. Fans on social media expressed disappointment Wednesday night, even though the show's not being there was for a very good reason -- they're creating additional episodes of the series!
Season 3 announcement
The "Shadowhunters" cast took to Facebook live on Friday, April 21 to an international audience of fans to reveal the exciting news and to do a Q&A! Freeform has officially picked up the series for Season 3 with 20 more episodes! In the video, cast members Kat McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, Alberto Rosende, Isaiah Mustafa, Will Tudor, David Castro and Harry Shum Jr., along with other guests spoke to all of the "angels" and supporters of the series to thank them for their love of the show.
We also hope this means that filming will start at the end of summer and that the cast will have all the more reason to make an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con this July in California, as well as return for the third year to New York Comic Con in October.
'Shadowhunters' returns with 2B in June
Season 3 seems like an awfully long time away, especially since we still haven't even seen the last 10 episodes of Season 2 yet! Freeform also released the first look at Season 2B this week when they posted two teaser trailers to the show's official social media page. The first video teases the #Clace vs #Climon relationship and shows Jace feeling torn over his love for Clary, whom he used to think was his sister.
We do see a glimpse of the epic reveal though, where he tells her that he is in fact not her brother. Watch the teaser below!
The second teaser was all about relationships, and by the angel, we saw quite a few of them in just 10 seconds. Raphael and Izzy might not be over, Alec and Magnus (#Malec) were passionately locked in a kiss, Clary and Simon have broken out of the canoe and have upgraded to a bed, but what about Luke?
The teaser doesn't reveal much, but we hope to see much more of him this season! Check it out here:
One person noticeably missing from the videos has been Sebastian, played by Will Tudor, who is a new Shadowhunter this season (and that's all we're going to say about that)!
