Will there be a new episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” on Thursday, April 20, 2017? This is a question that many fans have. Unfortunately the answer is a definite no. ABC announced last week that there wouldn’t be a new episode airing this week, and would instead air two hours of another Shonda Rhimes program, “Scandal.”

Of course, now the big question is why there won’t be a new episode of the show. ABC hasn’t stated why, but it could be due to the Nielsen TV sweep that will happen between April 27 and May 27.

This is when Nielsen collects all the information about ratings for various TV shows across the networks. The networks can use the information to decide whether to renew or cancel TV shows.

While “Grey’s Anatomy” season 14 has already been confirmed by the network, there is still the schedule for the 2017-2018 season to organize. It is possible that ABC will want to use the figures to see if Thursdays at 8 p.m. is still a good night for the medical drama. Considering the show has been on at that time from almost the beginning, it would seem strange to change it now.

A lot of TV shows are taking this week off from airing new episodes. Some CW shows have taken a whole month off, including “Arrow” and “The 100” due to the upcoming Nielsen sweep.

She has already confirmed she isn’t returning for season 14, but it’s unclear whether she will actually walk away from the show before the season finale.

Dr. Stephanie Edwards looks to be losing her confidence. She wasn’t seen in the last episode, but her storyline may continue next week as we’re taken back to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

“Grey’s Anatomy” season 13, episode 21 will involve Maggie learning the truth about Meredith and Riggs. It will definitely air on Thursday, April 27, 2017, as long as there are no emergency changes to the network.
