Harry Styles is back with a new album coming this May. As the former One Direction member already revealed his first solo song “Sign of the Times,” the public eye is now back to him once again. In fact, the 23-year-old star is on the cover of the coming May issue of Rolling Stone magazine. In his tell-all interview, he talked about his past relationship with another pop star, Taylor Swift.

Swift’s songs inspired by Styles

“Certain things don’t work out," he said about dating the 27-year-old Swift. He explained that his relationship with the “Shake it Off” hitmaker felt so right, but still so wrong.

To recall, they dated from October 2012 until January 2013.

Although short-lived, the “Dunkirk” star has been part of her “1989” album. In fact, two of the songs from the said LP, “Out of Woods” and “Style,” are actually about him. The interviewer, Cameron Crowe, then asked Styles if he knew that the said tunes were inspired by him.

In response, he said that he was not sure if the songs were about him, but he found Swift's songs good, and they were actually everywhere. He even compared himself to her by using his own experiences to write new tracks, adding that everyone also does it. He, too, feels fortunate knowing that everything they had experienced led her to create those hit tunes.

A message for Swift

Styles was also asked if there was something he wanted to say to Swift. He simply said that the moment she wrote down the songs about him, he left. He went on to say that writing tracks about the things they have been through made him want to tip his hat to their time together.

The ex-girlfriend of Tom Hiddleston was actually celebrating the reality of what they experienced.

It actually made her feel something rather than dwelling in the negativity of their relationship not working out. If ever he meets Swift again, he might feel awkward or might want to get drunk to have the guts to face her, but they can’t deny that they have shared something in life Styles thanked her for giving him the chance to meet and share new experiences with someone new.

He also considered his failed relationship with her as a learning experience.

Inspiration from a mystery woman

Meanwhile, Styles admitted that he admires Swift’s music. The “Drag Me Down” hitmaker explained that he doesn’t need to tell her, as her songs are speaking for themselves, and he even described it as “the most amazing unspoken dialogue ever."

And just like the “Blank Space” singer, he admitted that a mystery girl also inspired his self-titled solo album, although he did not reveal her name. "Sometimes you want to tip the hat, and sometimes you just want to give them the whole cap and hope they know it's just for them," he teased.
