The action-adventure realm is brimming with some of the most beloved characters in pop-culture history, but few have ever been as iconic as Indiana Jones. The smart-cracking archeologist is set to make a return to the big screen after 10 long years, and it’s all happening within the next two years.

Return of the original team

Walt Disney recently released a ton of information on their website about the fifth Indiana Jones film, and this only confirms recent speculation about finally reviving the hit franchise.

Fortunately for fans, Walt Disney will not be taking any half measures regarding the quality of the film because they have managed to sign on most of the individuals responsible for making the franchise a success in the first place.

Harrison Ford will reprieve his role as the titular character, while Steven Spielberg will be the man responsible for guiding his performance from behind the lens. The producers will be Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, and the film is set to release on July 19, 2019.

In the website release, Walt Disney Studio chairman Alan Horn made the following comments regarding reviving one of their best characters: “Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019.

It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

Indy’s Future

After buying the franchise from Lucasfilm, Disney has made us wait long and hard for the next step in the franchise. A lot of people believed that a new Indiana Jones might be cast when Disney finally makes the plunge, but it appears that the studio decided to give Harrison Ford and his fans one last hurrah before bowing down to that ugly mistress known as retirement.

It is almost certain that this should be Ford’s last stint as Indy, but chances are that the fifth instalment could also act as a passing of the torch for the new Indiana Jones, whoever he, or she may be.
