Ferdinand” is a story with quite a rich legacy of its own. The film is being adapted from a popular children's book written by Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson, first published back in 1936. Fascinatingly enough, the book became so popular that Adolf Hitler (dictator and notorious book-burner) ordered hundreds of copies so that he could burn them in Nazi Germany. Fortunately, the war ended and 30,000 copies of the book were handed out to children around the world Post-World War II. Walt Disney even made a short animated feature based on the story of “Ferdinand” that won an Oscar.

With such rich lore, there was no doubt that “Ferdinand” would be made again at some point, and it looks like that time is now.

Bull in a China shop

Ferdinand” is being made by Blue Sky Studios and is a 20th Century fox production. The film centers around the life of a mild-mannered and big-hearted bull named Ferdinand (played by John Cena). Ferdinand has no interest in being the stereotypical version of a bull that everyone expects him to be; he likes smelling flowers, befriending other animals, and even hanging out with human beings from time to time. Unfortunately for Ferdinand, the people in his hometown can't seem to see his gentle side, and send him off to another city in order to protect themselves from the so-called “dangerous bull."

Ferdinand must team up with some hilarious and unknown animals in order to make his way back home and return to his family.

The story is set in Spain and it tries to teach you a valuable lesson that you can't judge a bull by its cover.

What to expect

The cast of the film is extremely talented, and that is probably the most important facet of an Animated Film. The cast is being led by John Cena, and he will be accompanied by Kate Mckinnon, Gina Rodriguez, Gabriel Iglesias, Bobby Cannavale, David Tennant, Anthony Anderson, Jerrod Carmichael and Daveed Diggs.

John Cena has not yet attained the level of stardom that The Rock has achieved over the years, but he is on his way to becoming a seasoned actor. He was in a lot of action films during the early days of his career, much like his wrestling colleagues, but most of the films did not find an audience. He did, however, have some success in recent comedic roles which is probably why he also landed the lead in this film. It will be interesting to see John Cena interact with such a diverse and talented cast. The film is set to release on December 15, 2017 and you can catch the hilarious trailer below.
