We are living in the age of never-ending stories. If a show or a movie becomes a commercial hit, there is no doubt that its shelf-life will be greatly extended using tools such as sequels, prequels and spin-offs. “The Big Bang Theory” has been one of the most successful television shows in the history of the medium, which is why the creators are looking to keep the magic alive with a Prequel.
A young Sheldon is born
One of the biggest factors behind the success of “The Big Bang Theory” is its ability to portray “nerds” in a humorous and relatable one. The most successful character in the show is Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parson, and it looks like a prequel exploring the life of a young Sheldon Cooper is being considered. The show has been unsurprisingly titled “Sheldon”.
We are all well aware of the fact that Sheldon Cooper was a child prodigy who got his Ph.D. at an obscenely young age. The new series will be set during Cooper’s adolescent years, probably around the time he was 12 years old, and explore his character arc from that point in time.
The team behind Sheldon
“The Big Bang Theory” remained such a consistent hit for such a lengthy period of time due to the talent of the producers and writers of the show. Fortunately for “Sheldon”, a large number of people responsible for the success of the show are looking to make a return in the prequel as well. This involves the likes of creator and producer Chuck Lorre, along with his executive producer and co-creator Bill Prady.
Although the show will not feature any of the original cast members from “The Big Bang Theory”, a report from Deadlines suggest that Jim Parson will return in some capacity. He will not be featured on the show, but he may act as an executive producer and provide a direction for the character he played so successfully for so many years.
The show is yet to cast Sheldon’s family members that include his father, mother and sister, but it is certain that it will be set in Texas. Although “Sheldon” doesn’t have a home on any network so far, considering the popularity of the character the series is based on, that seems like just a matter of time.
