Actress Natalie Portman is expecting her second child with husband Benjamin Millepied and wasn't up to attend Sunday night's Oscars ceremony. Portman's role in "Jackie" earned her a nomination for Best Actress, but her pregnancy hindered her red carpet appearance.
People magazine quoted a statement Portman made about her decision to skip the award show. “Due to my pregnancy, I am unable to attend the Independent Spirit Awards and the Academy Awards. I feel so lucky to be honored among my fellow nominees and wish them the most beautiful of weekends.”
Natalie's pregnancy and red carpet appearances
Natalie also opted to skip Saturday night's Independent Spirit Awards as her due date nears.
However, the 35-year-old did attend the Oscars nominee luncheon earlier this month where her growing baby bump made headlines. The actress opted for a simple black dress purchased from Topshop to cover her burgeoning baby bump at the luncheon.
While Portman declined to attend the 2017 Oscars, she did attend the SAG Awards and Golden Globes in January where she displayed comfortable, yet high fashion maternity looks. Us Weekly stated Natalie's bold Golden Globes look landed her on its best dressed list. Portman wore a loose-fitting white Dior Haute Couture dress that featured a bell sleeve to the SAG Awards, according to Us Weekly. Natalie appeared very pregnant earlier this month, so fans may not be too surprised to learn she is opting out of this weekend's award shows.
Natalie showcases style and her baby bump
Natalie did attend the 2011 Oscars while pregnant with her son Aleph, reports People, as she was nominated for Best Actress for her role in the drama "Black Swan." However, Portman is closer to giving birth this award season than she was during her first pregnancy. According to Us Weekly, the actress is set to deliver her second child "any day now."

Despite her not attending the weekend's award shows, Natalie has stepped out in style during both of her pregnancies.
The actress is known for her high-class style and ability to remain fashionable as she debuts her pregnancies. While fans may be a bit disappointed not to see her on Sunday's red carpet, they can look forward to hearing her baby news as Natalie prepares to give birth.
