Natalie Portman has been nominated for an Academy Award for her role as John F. Kennedy’s First Lady in the film “Jackie,” but while she would like to attend the awards, she cannot, due to her pregnancy. The news was recently given to ABC News that Portman will be unable to attend.
Portman announced the good news back in September last year that she and her husband, French choreographer Benjamin Millepied, were expecting their second child. The couple is already parents to a five-year-old son, Aleph. As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, Natalie told Matt Lauer on Today in November last year that she would be giving birth to their second child in the spring.
Natalie Portman is honored to be nominated for an Oscar
While regretting that she cannot be there, Natalie said that she feels so lucky to be honored among her fellow Oscar nominees and she wishes them all the “most beautiful of weekends.” The historical film “Jackie” details the life of the former first lady a week after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Portman has been nominated for best actress for her lead role as Jackie Kennedy Onassis in the movie at Sunday night’s Oscars ceremony, as well as the best female lead in the Independent Spirit Awards, which were held in Santa Monica on Saturday. The movie has also been nominated for best feature and editing at the Independent Spirit Awards as well as the Oscar for the score and costume design.
This is not the first Oscar nomination for Natalie Portman
The nomination for “Jackie” is Natalie’s third Oscar nomination after she won the best actress back in 2010 for “Black Swan.” In that film, Portman played a committed dancer who won the lead role in a production of Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake." However, she soon finds herself struggling to maintain her sanity.
Portman was also nominated in 2004 in the supporting category for “Closer.” In that movie, Portman played the role of Alice Ayres, a young American stripper who had just arrived in London and met up with Dan Woolf, an unsuccessful author, played by British actor Jude Law.
