The irrepressible Mr. Mxyzptlk comes to National City and his arrival is nothing short of fantastic on a magical Mr. Mxyzptlk and Supergirl. Kara Zor-El (played by Melissa Benoit in the Series’ role) juggles protecting her new digs as a crime-fighting superhero and having a personal life as her alter ego, news reporter Kara Danvers. The “Supergirl” series creators have achieved their intention to keep the story true to its “Superman” DC universe roots where other series in the genre continue to struggle by blending heroic action with an engaging storyline.
Danvers gives life to the second iconic superhero to follow in the steps Kal-El bringing a quirky sensibility to the character Kara as the geek alter-ego fans adore.
The creators continue to weave a Supergirl universe that is fraught with hero sidekicks and villains keeping Kara busy and the newest troublemaker on their roster is the impossible Mr. Mxyzptlk (pronounced ‘Mix-YEZ-pitt-lick’). His travels across the DC universe lead him to Supergirl and he immediately gets on bended knee to propose, thrilled to announce she is the apple of his eye, and he asks her a fateful question that could change hers and the citizens of National City’s lives forever.
'Mr. Myzptlk' and 'Supergirl'—a real trickster
Mr. Mxyzptlk introduced himself on comic panels in the DC Comics’ “Action Comics #40”. He arrived from the 5th dimension with a canon of mystical hijinks that threatened Metropolis in a bent to dominate Earth. The story driver in the Mxyzptlk and Supergirl storyline parallels “Superman” when Myzptlk discovers his penchant for unraveling Kara’s peaceable nature like did to Clark Kent because their Kryptonian DNA makes them as susceptible to his pure magic as heroes.
Mxyzptlk's arrival to National City follows Kara’s on-again, off-again romance with the Daxamite Mon-El and just when they were about to explore their relationship further. Kara refuses Mxyzptlk's advances immediately and instead he decides to give Supergirl an assist in fighting the evil that Kara could prevent if she accepted his hand in marriage.
'Supergirl' Wedding Bells
Her cousin Kal-El learned a secret that could return Mxyzptlk to his own dimension and stop his power of Earth’s laws of physics. He hornswoggled Mxyzptlk to spell his own name “backwards” to cancel his magic abilities.
The series trailer debuted in a swarm of TV and movie trailer peeks in the upcoming 2017 entertainment in early spring and summer, including Fox Movies’ long-awaited “Logan”.
