Hey, "The Affair" fans. It's time to crack open the champagne bottle, because it's official. Showtime has given your favorite show a brand new season 4 order according to the people over at The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline and TVline! The wonderful announcement came earlier this month on January 9th,2017 during Showtime's 2017 Television Critics Association winter press tour. David Nevins ,who is the president of the network, delivered the announcement.

How many episodes speculation

It was not revealed how many episodes the new season will get. Season 3 only served up 10 episodes, so hopefully, season 4 will get at least that many or more.

If not, that could be a bad sign of any future endeavors. Of course, this renewal means that all you guys can look forward to seeing some more spoilers, sneak peek clips, photos, cast interviews and all that good stuff in the coming weeks and months, so be on the look out for that.

Backlash drama

Unfortunately, we couldn't track down any initial season 4 teasers as of the writing of this article, but we're pretty sure that we'll see something pop up ,maybe, later on this week when the press hounds the producers for some early details. The Hollywood Reporter did reveal some interesting drama that went down with the show as of late, saying that it faced some harsh backlash from some key critics, and it has been knocked out on contention to be a frontrunner at these whack award shows.

During its first season, it was able to snag a Golden Globe award for best drama, which is pretty damn huge. If that weren't enough, it won another Golden Globe award for its second season.

The ratings numbers

The show takes a deeper look into the emotional and psychological effects of an affair that totally ruined two separate marriages and a criminal situation that ended up, forcing these individuals to get involved with each other again.

As for the ratings, season 3 was actually way down in viewership from the second season.

During the second season, it averaged a 0.24 rating in the 18-49 demographic with around 842,000 viewers per episode. In the current third season, it's been averaging a 0.18 rating in the 18-49 demographic with around 650,000 to 700,000 viewers per episode.

So, it sounds like they were pretty lucky to get the renewal. Hopefully, they will be able to get those numbers back up in the 4th season. Right now, we're just guessing that the new season will debut in late 2017. We'll see. Stay tuned.
