Ever since winning the election, the biggest story to dominate the news cycle has been over what impact Russia had on the outcome. After multiple reports found that Russia was responsible for hacking the Democratic National Committee (DNC), President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump dismissed the allegations, which Bill Maher was quick to mock on social media.

Maher on Trump

Only a few weeks after Election Day, The Washington Post broke the bombshell story that the CIA had conducted a secret investigation into the allegations of Russian hacking.

Not only did the CIA confirm that Russia was behind the hack of the DNC, but they also concluded that their main goal was to help elect Donald Trump. Last week, CNN reported that Russia had actually planned to blackmail Trump by using "compromising" information that they had previously obtained. In an unverified follow-up report, Buzzfeed claimed that the information Russia had in their possession including a "golden shower" sex tape featuring the president-elect and Russian prostitutes. Putin has since come to Trump's defense on the issue, which was highlighted by comedian Bill Maher on Twitter on January 18.

Speaking to Russian media outlet Sputnik News earlier this week, Vladimir Putin denied that Russia had any plan to blackmail Donald Trump, and shot down the allegation of a sex tape featuring the former host of "The Apprentice." "I find it hard to believe that he rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals," Putin said of Trump, before noting, "although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world." In response, Bill Maher used Twitter to express his thoughts.

"Love Putin going full Borat yesterday," Bill Maher tweeted, before mockingly quoting Vladimir Putin by tweeting, "How ridiculous Trump wld be w/ prostitute here in Moscow -but if he was, we have best!" Maher concluded his tweet with a reminder to his fans, "RT on Friday!"

"Real Time" return

"Real Time with Bill Maher" will make its return on Friday and kick off the show's 15th season.

Ironically, the return of the hit HBO show also takes place on the 61st birthday of host Bill Maher, as well as it being Inauguration Day. Maher has been a long time critic of Donald Trump, and it's expected that the inauguration and the recent drama around it will be front and center for the majority of the program.
