We are getting to a point where there are only one or two truly bad teams in the league, and we need to decide how many of the mediocre teams we can Trust. The Chargers are deeply mediocre, but they have a new coach who might be able to help them get over the hump.
The Chargers need a new plan
The Chargers need to have a new plan because they probably have a lot of things to consider when they are looking at what the world of football can give them.
They have Philip Rivers, but that does not mean that they will be able to get the team to improve in enough time for Rivers to have a good end to his career. There are a lot of people who are going to be able to come in and play well, but the Chargers need to decide when it is time to make a change. Eli Manning is in the middle of the same situation in New York, but Eli has been to two Super Bowls. This would end a sad chapter in the history of the franchise that would be considered a very big lost opportunity.
The defense needs to excel
Now would be a good time for the Chargers to change to a defense-oriented team that is not relying on Philip Rivers so much. They have one for the better quarterbacks in the league, but they cannot expect him to do everything for them.
There are a lot of reasons to do this, and the most important is that they need to be ready for some new quarterback that they will sign. The draft strategy for this team should focus mostly on defense and offensive line play so that they will be much like the Rams in a few years if they move on to a new passer.
The stadium will help
The new stadium in LA will help the Chargers a lot because that stadium will make the experience a little bit better for everyone. It is very important for them to remember that they need to be prepared for that, and I think that they might prepare for that just by making sure that they have gotten someone other than Philip Rivers to start.
It is not that Rivers is bad, but it all has to do with the fact that The Chargers need to have a fresh face on the field when they go to a new stadium. It is going to work for the Rams because they already have that fresh face in Jared Goff. I hope that the Chargers get that right because it would make them more fun to watch.
