Sinclair Broadcast Group owns nearly 200 stations across the country and the latest story reveals their scripted notes for news anchors to follow in Donald Trump's footsteps and bash mainstream media as "fake news." While the story received massive backlash, Trump is coming to their defense.

After Donald Trump pulled off his shocking and controversial upset win over Hillary Clinton, many pointed to misinformation spreading on social media for what led to his victory.

In an attempt to downplay the allegations, Trump took the term "fake news" and applied to any mainstream news outlet that he didn't agree with. Since then, Trump has continued to use the term to attack any and all reports that praise his administration and policies, which led to the conservative Sinclair Broadcast Group to call on their news anchors across the country to stand by Trump's talking points.

With the Sinclair Broadcast Group owning stations that cover 40 percent of the country, a recent edited video clip showed anchors across the United States reading from the same pre-written script pushing back against "fake news." The story and video was met with criticism, but resulted in Trump defending the company during an April 2 tweet.

"So funny to watch Fake News Networks, among the most dishonest groups of people I have ever dealt with, criticize Sinclair Broadcasting for being biased," Trump tweeted out, before adding, "Sinclair is far superior to CNN and even more Fake NBC, which is a total joke."

Trump on Amazon

In a follow-up tweet, Donald Trump turned his attention back to his feud with Amazon and the post office. "Only fools, or worse, are saying that our money losing Post Office makes money with Amazon," Trump wrote. "THEY LOSE A FORTUNE, and this will be changed," he added, while noting, "Also, our fully tax paying retailers are closing stores all over the country...not a level playing field!"

Instant backlash

Following his latest round of tweets, Donald Trump was met with criticism in return.

"How's your executive time today, racist grandpa?" one tweet read.

"Don't you have a country to ruin you daft old man," a Twitter user wrote. "That’s rich coming from a dishonest man who watches nothing but bias television," yet another tweet stated. "You watch too much TV. Use those little hands and pick up a book. This WH has been nothing but the Trumpdashian Show, a 24/7 reality TV show," a follow-up tweet noted.

"Shut the hell up, dumb a**, you think you're so smart you're a joke can't you see that," a social media user tweeted back. "You are supposed to hold the highest Office in the land. Stop acting like a child," an additional tweet pointed out.
