Parents do you know where your children might be? March 14, 2018, Marked the National School walkout day! Thousands of Students nationwide skipped class at around 10:00 AM to protest against gun violence due to the tragic mass shooting that occurred at a Florida High School last month that left 17 students dead. Students took a moment of silence for the fallen victims of the shooting.
Enough is enough, time to stand up!
The hashtag (Enoughisenough) has been trending on social media, including Facebook, Twitter and many more. Students have come together to rally and let their voices be heard! If you look through social media you'll see powerful images from people who are taking part of this National event. Can you hear us now, Congress?
You don't need a cape to be a hero
Many have come together, calling out for stricter gun control legislation. So many lives have been saved by heroes that will always remembered. Remember, not all heroes wear capes. It takes a lot of bravery to fight off the dangers especially during a school shooting.
Those who had died in the Florida shooting were aged 14 to 49. The Florida shooter was Nikolas Cruz, a 19-year old that was earlier expelled from the high school.
One of those heroes was Aaron Feis. He was the assistant football coach for the Florida high school who made an effort to shield the students from the oncoming bullets with his own body.
If you search around on YouTube, there are a few videos that are shown that list the 17 victims who were killed in the school shooting and what they had done for the school.
What's next?
Students are planning another to have another rally on March 24, 2018 to advocate for more gun control. This is for the Gun control that will take place in Washington D.C.
Students will target the National Rifle Association and every lawmaker that is funding them. Many people are praising the students for their activism and response to the tragedy.
Mark your calendars. Another National walkout will be on April 20, planned by a Connecticut student for the 20th-Anniversary of the Columbine school shooting, another tragic event that left 12 innocent people dead.
Once this problem is addressed to the Congress, there is no way out. Congress will not be able to ignore this any longer and has to address the gun issues before matters get worse in the future. If gun laws are not taken seriously, there will be major losses and consequences. Fear will be spread, but it will not stop our younger voices being heard to bring change nationwide.
