Just one year after Donald Trump shocked the world by becoming the 45th President of the United States, the Democrats turned the tables with a historic night of their own. Despite a bad night for the GOP, Trump ignored the results to relieve his victory from last year.
Trump on 2016
Heading into the 2016 presidential election, the consensus was that Hillary Clinton would become the nominee for the Democratic Party, but it wasn't so clear on the Republican side of the aisle. While Clinton was able to follow through after a tough battle against Vermont Sen.
Bernie Sanders, it was Donald Trump who turned the GOP on its head. After initially having his candidacy viewed as a joke, the former host of "The Apprentice" was able to pick up steam, as his controversial campaign style and questionable policy proposals appealed to enough of the conservative base to push him to the general election. While Trump made it to a race against Clinton, the former Secretary of State was still considered the odds on favorite. However, by the time election night concluded last November, Trump came out on top. Since then, questions have been raised about what impact Russia's reported hacking of the election played in favor of the new president, as Trump's approval ratings continue to drop.
Trump's low poll numbers appeared to be a factor on Tuesday night, as Democrats picked up key victories around the country. In response, Trump decided to ignore the results by tweeting about his victory from the year prior.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Donald Trump celebrated the one year anniversary of his Electoral College win over Hillary Clinton.
"Congratulations to all of the ”DEPLORABLES” and the millions of people who gave us a MASSIVE (304-227) Electoral College landslide victory!" Trump tweeted out.

The president sent out his tweet while visiting China as he continued on with his 12-day foreign trip.
While Trump deflected from the latest election news, Democrats, liberals and other voters were quick to offer the billionaire real estate mogul a reminder.
Twitter reacts
Within minutes of Donald Trump's tweet about his 2016 election win, critics wasted no time bringing the president up to date. "Are you serious? Take your meds. It's 2017 and you got your bu++ kicked last night. Focus man," one tweet read.
