President Donald Trump has appointed retired General John F Kelly (Homeland Security Secretary) as the new Chief Of Staff of the White House after firing Reince Priebus, according to The Guardian. Trump called Kelly a "great leader and a great American" in his tweet. He also added that Kelly will do a fantastic job.
What could be the reason for Priebus's resignation?
Recently appointed communications director Anthony Scaramucci claimed on Wednesday night that Priebus was probably been asked to leave the job.
Trump revealed the news of the Reince replacement by Kelly, when Air Force One returned to the Air base in the county of Prince George, Maryland, according to the Guardian. Scaramucci and Priebus were present on the flight. According to the WSJ (Wall Street Journal), Priebus wrote his resignation secretly in a text message on Thursday.
Still, while Priebus is playing the role of the WH chief staff, he is viewed as weak and not effective. It is still unknown how much blame he deserves for taking wrong steps for the administration such as the failure of the health reform in which he played a leading role.
Trump picked him to work effectively with the congressional leaders of GOP, especially with Paul Ryan, the Vox reported.
It's been more than six months since Trump was elected as the new commander-in-chief of the United States, and many of his administration members are gone, including the FBI director, national security adviser, acting attorney general, deputy national security adviser and many others. On Twitter, Trump thanked Reince Priebus for his dedication to the country and also mentioned that he is proud of him.
Sanders praised John F Kelly in her statement
Sarah Huckabee Sanders (the press secretary of White House) praised John Kelly in her statement, saying that he is one of the administration's true stars, and there is no one compared to him.
She noted that he had helped in reducing illegal immigration by seventy percent, and the Homeland Security Department respect him very much.
"He (Priebus) will begin on Monday morning and a cabinet meeting will follow his swearing in on Monday morning," she said. She also added that President Trump and Kelly have accomplished much together, and he will always remain in Trump administration.
She was asked by the reporters whose decision it had been, Trump's or Priebus's, but she replied, "We all serve at the pleasure of the president." She also said that the decision was not connected with Scaramucci, according to the Guardian.
