Investors, wannabe stock market players and the legion of fans of the investing guru Warren Buffett would definitely want to have Lunch with him at some point of their lives in order to pick his brains about the art of investing. However, the world doesn't work that way and there is a price that needs to be paid for such experiences. Thankfully, there is a yearly charity auction that takes place for a lunch with the 'Oracle of Omaha' and this year, the winning bidding came in at $2.6 million.
Opportunity of a lifetime
According to Fortune, the yearly charity auction took place on E-bay and went on for five days, as a total of 41 bids came in throughout that period.
The winning bid came from an Anonymous bidder who won the chance to have lunch with Warren Buffett with a bid of $2,679,001. The final bid was made at the dying stages of the auction window. Last year, the winning bid was around $3.4 million. The proceeds from the auction will be donated to the San Francisco-based charity named Glide. The charity is involved in providing food and medical care in addition to other associated services to the downtrodden sections of society, which include people suffering from poverty, drug addiction and homelessness.
This is the 18th time that Buffett held the auction and over that period, he has raised a staggering $26.3 million for the charity. The charity has an annual budget of $18 million and this auction contributes handsomely to the outlay every year.
His wife had also been a volunteer with Glide. Co-founder of Glide, Rev. Cecil Williams said, "We are very delighted and proud that Mr. Buffett has for years made sure that he participates."
What the lunch involves
The individual who placed the winning bid has the option of either going for a one on one lunch or he can even bring friends along if he so wishes.
The maximum number of friends that he can bring along is 7. The lunch will be held at the legendary Smith & Wollensky steak house located in Manhattan, New York.
However, the most important aspect of the lunch is the sort of conversations that the individual would be able to have with one of the world's most successful investors.
According to most reports, almost all topics under the sun are allowed but no discussions about Warren Buffett's future investment plans are permitted. Be that as it may, there is no doubt that the lunch would be a fruitful one for the winning bidder and his entourage, if any, who would be present at the lunch.
