In his first social outing as commander in chief, Donald Trump attended the Ford's Theatre gala along side his wife Melania Trump on Sunday night. After Melania tweeted about her experience at the event, social media users fired back.

Melania at Ford's Theatre

During the 2016 presidential election, it was made more than obvious that Donald Trump was a Washington outsider. Because the former host of "The Apprentice" never had a history as a politician, he was able to use that to his advantage and cater to those who were tired of business as usual in Washington.

Since pulling off the shocking upset win over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton last November, Trump has had a rocky time serving as the 45th President of the United States. Over the last 5 months since he's been sworn into office, Trump has faced an onslaught of criticism over a variety of issues, controversy, and scandal that has plagued his administration. With the pressure mounting on his presidency, especially over the growing Russian scandal, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump made their way to Ford's Theatre on Sunday night to celebrate the annual Gala event in Washington, D.C. As seen on her Twitter account on June 4, Melania tweeted about the evening.

Taking to her Twitter feed on Sunday night, Melania Trump expressed her joy over attending the aforementioned gala at Ford's Theatre with her husband Donald Trump.

"Thank you to everyone at @fordstheatre for tonight's performances!" Melania tweeted, before adding, "@POTUS and I enjoyed the evening very much."

Twitter reacts

Responding to Melania Trump and her tweet about the annual Ford's Theatre gala were a slew of social media users who took time to mock and troll the First Couple.

"Please take Trump back to NY with you because he isn't fit to be President. You said you would tackle bullying. Start with him," one tweet read.

"Next time you should take hubby to see Our American Cousin.

I hear it's fabulous," another Twitter user wrote in reference to the play Abraham Lincoln saw at Ford's Theatre when he was assassinated. "So did you leave Barron at home? Do you miss your lover at Tiffany's?" an additional tweet added.

"Are are you ever going to stop wasting taxpayers money? Oh wait. You don't care. Just keep selling your products! All about You," another post stated. "Honestly, how gross is it having sex with Don? It's gotta be nasty right?" a follow-up tweet asked. The negative reactions continued as the political divide in the United States was on display.
