Former Fbi Director James Comey will address the scandal Donald Trump was in concerning an unverified Russian dossier that claimed he was involved with hookers when he visited the country. The stunning allegations surfaced soon after Trump was elected. Comey will testify before the Senate Intelligence Community on Thursday to deliver details on interactions he had with the president. His testimony is expected to cover an array of topics surrounding the Russian investigation and give insight into whether Trump obstructed justice.
Comey details interactions with President Trump
James Comey documented a March 30 conversation in which Trump told him that he "had nothing to do with Russia" and "had not been involved with hookers" while visiting there. Trump mentioned that he always thought he was "being recorded" during his time in the country.
The Russian dossier claiming Trump was involved with hookers came from former British intelligence officer, Christopher Steele. He alleged that Trump was involved with prostitutes at the Moscow Ritz-Carlton Hotel and that members of Russian intelligence had evidence.
News outlets reporting on the dossier and claims that Trump had an encounter with hookers in Russia were soon branded "fake news" by the president.
After CNN reported on the development -- fully disclosing that the dossier was uncorroborated -- the president lashed out at reporter, Jim Acosta, during a briefing and accused his employer of being a "fake news" organization.
The intelligence hearing is expected to showcase the exchanges Donald Trump had with James Comey in the months and weeks before the FBI director's firing.
It's believed that Trump fired Comey because he wasn't letting up on the investigation over Russians allegedly communicating with the Trump campaign and possibly interfering with the U.S. election last November. Trump tried convincing Comey to drop his investigation into looking closer at former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.
The president wanted Comey to let "Flynn go" and "lift the cloud" in the Russian investigation over his presidency.
Comey was "uneasy" during one meeting with Trump
In Comey's seven pages of testimony, he emphasizes the discomfort he felt taking with Trump. In late January, comments Trump made during dinner made him "uneasy" and that the conversation was "awkward" when the president demanded loyalty from him. He told him he'd always get "honesty" from him, to which Trump replied he expects "honest loyalty."
