Although there are rumors that Melania Trump and Barron Trump will stay in New York, Cosmopolitan revealed that they will be relocating this summer to the White House. The news was announced by a White House official saying that Melania and Barron are moving to Washington, DC to live with the president of the United States, Donald Trump. It appears that they are now packing their things to move in this summer since this has "always been the plan" of the family.
According to the official, Trump's wife and his 11-year-old son are currently residing in their $100 million penthouse apartment located in the Trump Tower, New York City.
But they will be relocating to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. after Barron finishes his current school year.
Change in plans?
After the inauguration of Trump into office, there were speculations that Melania would stay in New York permanently. It was said that the first lady is doing this in order to avoid disrupting the schooling of their youngest son, Barron.
In an interview with ABC News anchor David Muir, Trump said that he is okay living in the White House without Melania and Barron. He said that he wouldn't feel lonely living alone there "because I end up working longer. And that's OK." But it appears that the first family has had a change of plans and they have decided to live together at the White House.
Reports are saying that their relocation has been moving along as scheduled.
Donald Trump wants family in White House
Although the president said he won't feel lonely, it would indeed be better to live with the family in the White House as other past presidents did. In a press conference back in February, Trump revealed their plan of relocating his wife and youngest son.
"Melania goes back and forth, and after Barron finishes school — because it's hard to take a child out of school with a few months left — she and Barron will be moving over to the White House," said President Trump.
Melania's role as the first lady
Despite not living in the White House, Melania still spends time with her husband at his luxurious Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.
Recently, she went there to entertain Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, and also Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife, Akie Abe.
She did all of this not just to be with her husband but also to fulfill her role as the first lady. It can be recalled that Melania made her first public solo engagement last month at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. During said event, she read the book "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" by Dr. Seuss to a group of sick children.
