Despite his best efforts to dismiss the allegations, Donald Trump has been forced to deal with the growing scandal involving Russia and his election win. While the White House pushes back, even a host at Fox News is not convinced of their innocence.
Fox News on Trump
When Donald Trump announced he was running for president nearly two years ago, there was much speculation about potential conflict of interests due to his decades as a businessman and dealings with international companies and governments.
That speculation only grew after the former host of "The Apprentice" refused to release his tax returns, which many believed would show ties to foreign nations. Also during the 2016 presidential election, questions were raised over Russia's involvement, which was later found to include the hacking of the Democratic National Committee in favor of Trump. The billionaire real estate mogul and the Kremlin have denied the allegations, despite the overwhelming evidence that shows otherwise. Since the election, various Trump associates have been caught with some link to Russia, including former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn after it was uncovered that he spoke with Russian officials after the election.
As the news continues to trickle out over the issue at hand, Shepard Smith of Fox News decided to hit the White House with an allegation of his own on April 25.
During his Tuesday show on Fox News, host Shepard Smith addressed the latest twist in the story regarding the White House refusing to handover critical documents pertaining to Michael Flynn to the House Oversight Committee who are currently investigating the issue. "The situation is unprecedented," Smith noted.
"Never in American history has a man so close to the president...been accused of committing a crime by taking money from a foreign entity, much less one connected to the Russians," Shepard Smith continued. Not stopping there, Smith noted that the "core" of the entire investigation is that Russia interfered with an American election, before noting that Michael Flynn received back channel money from Russia while the White House turns a bling eye and gives the "overall appearance that they're trying to cover something up."
Moving forward
As the scandal surrounding Russia continues, Donald Trump has done his best to deflect onto other issues.
In addition to his potential ties to the Kremlin, the commander in chief is dealing with infighting in his own administration, his inability to get on the same page as his fellow Republicans, as well as making questionable decisions that involve foreign nations, like Syria and North Korea.
