Many seemed to be divided on Wednesday about Trump's speech the day before. His supporters praised him for his grand sweeping vision for America, but his detractors wondered if this was an act to lift his poor ratings and surpass the turbulent first few days in office.

Violence, division and coming together

He said the violence was a reminder that "while we may be a nation divided on policies, we are a country that stands united in condemning hate and evil."

This comment most likely was aimed to mollify criticism that he didn’t address the violence in the Indian and Jewish the last few weeks, when two Indian men were killed and Jewish synagogues were brazenly vandalized.

Trump entered the House chamber to deafening and ecstatic applause and appealed to his supporters with promises that he would renew the "American spirit." His critics noted his turn of mood and wondered if it would last.

A White House official has claimed that trump wrote the speech and had input from almost every member of his team.
