President Donald Trump has made it clear that he's not pleased with certain Republicans in Congress who opposed his health care proposal. After sending out a threat to the House Freedom Caucus on Twitter, some conservative lawmakers decided to respond.

Trump backlash

The American Health Care Act was supposed to be the plan that Republicans unified behind and put in the place of the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare.

Since former President Barack Obama signed his landmark piece of legislation into law back in January 2010, Republicans have made it their mission to repeal the law, and replace it with their vision of how health care should work. Earlier this month, House Speaker Paul Ryan and Donald Trump came together to promote their bill, which was met with universal backlash, included from the right-wing Freedom Caucus in the House of Representatives who thought the plan was not conservative enough. Their opposition caused the bill to die before it could even be brought up for a vote, leading to the president to speak out.

After Trump threatened the Freedom Caucus during a Thursday morning tweet, two GOP members of Congress decided to fire back, as reported on March 30.

Donald Trump took to Twitter and warned that the Freedom Caucus will "hurt the entire Republican Party," while vowing to "fight them" moving forward. In response, Rep. Justin Amash responded to the president on social media, while mocking the president in the process. "It didn't take long for the swamp to drain @realDonaldTrump," Amash tweeted out. Not stopping there, Amash continued his message, adding, "No shame, Mr. President. Almost everyone succumbs to the D.C. Establishment."

Double down

In addition, Florida Rep. Ted Yoho addressed Donald Trump's tweet during an interview with MSNBC, where he pushed back against what he called an "unfortunate" message.

"We're not fighting the president," Yoho said, before explaining "We're trying to honor what we ran on." As of press time, the former host of "The Apprentice" has not issued a rebuttal to remarks made by the two congressman.
