Police officers are sworn in to serve and protect the community they service. Citizens rely on them to be models of excellence, looking up to them as authority figures. In most cases, police officers put their lives on the line to protect the people, except for a select few like Officer Sustaita Jr. of Harris County, Texas. The officer is accused of sexual acts involving animals and child pornography. He has been on the force with the county for the past six years.
The investigation of officer after animal sex charges and child porn
The officer in question is sheriff’s deputy Andrew C.
Sustaita, Jr. from Houston, Texas who is also an Army veteran. Although authorities will not reveal their source for the allegations, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office made a statement that the officer is immediately relieved of his duties on the force. During their investigation, videos surfaced on Sustaita’s computer depicting him having sex with a small dog. Deputies also found more than 200 photos and videos of child pornography on his laptop. Two of the female victims appeared to be as young as four years old. His charges stem from the child pornography and not from the sexual act with an animal. Deputy Sustaita was jailed but later released after posting a $5,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing.
Animal advocates pushing for additional charges against the officer for endangering an animal
A spokesperson for the Harris County police stated that part of Sustaita’s obscenity charges relate to the sexual contact he had with a dog and then filming it. In Texas, along with some other states, there is no ban against people have sexual contact with an animal.
Animal activists are hoping to change the laws in that regard this coming year. Kentucky has just recently considered a bill that would outlaw the sexual assault of cats and Dogs that are pets, but no word about other Animals involved. Sustaita is being charged for filming the sexual act with the dog but not the act itself at this time.
