The Tadashi Shoji Fall/Winter runway show at New York Fashion Week was all about being bold and expressing yourself with strength and grace. And, over at the Hammerstein Ballroom, the theme was wearing red to empower women to support and advocate for heart health.
Tadashi Shoji goes boldly down the runway at New York Fashion Week
The Tadashi Shoji collection at New York Fashion Week oscillated between strength and grace.
Models strutted confidently down the catwalk in body-hugging, sheer dresses and gowns for his 2018 Fall Collection debuting at Spring Studios in New York City.
The looks also included jersey hugging dresses and plenty of velvet and sequins. I caught up with the designer backstage before the show to discuss his latest collection. “This season is about the empowerment of women who are bold and unapologetic, who obeys her heart and defies the minds of others.”
Shoji also alluded to the fact that he decided to do sexier, body-hugging dresses for self-assured women in defiance of those who criticized his sheer signature looks that have been a mainstay throughout his career.
Models wore undergarments by Commando, jewelry by Sequin and shoes by Cecelia New York.
Celebrities strut for a cause at the Red Dress Collection
Celebrities and A-listers donned the red carpet at the annual American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women’s Red Dress Collection 2018. The event was held at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City to a standing-room-only crowd on day one of New York Fashion Week.
Notable attendees strutting the carpet included Kate Walsh from "Grey's Anatomy" and Supermodel Niki Taylor, "The Bachelorette's" Rachel Lindsay, and Melissa Joan Hart from "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," among others.
The event was hosted by actress Marisa Tomei, and musical guests included En Vogue and Broadway actress Lea Salonga.
She kicked off the evening with a rendition of "I Lived" followed by En Vogue rocking the house with "Hold On" and "My Lovin (You're Never Gonna Get it)." Fashion Influencer, model, and DJ Harley Viera-Newton worked her magic spinning records throughout the night.
This year celebrities supported the event to help raise awareness of heart disease in women, which kills one woman every 80 seconds, and, approximately 80 percent of cardiovascular diseases can be prevented. This exclusive event helps to remind women to protect their heart health and advocate in the fight against heart disease and stroke in women.
Macy's is the founding sponsor of Go Red for Women and has raised more than $65 million for the cause.
