This is the time of year when temperatures are at their highest. If not careful your body could be overheating without your realizing it. When you know the warning signs of dehydration, you can take steps to stay cool and prevent a trip to the hospital. One of the major signals is dizziness.
Feeling faint is a warning prior to dehydration
If you believe you must experience extreme thirst before becoming dehydrated this is incorrect.
According to "Readers Digest" that feeling lightheaded or faint is a danger sign and warning that you are headed towards dehydration. Prior to sweating and feeling your heart race, you may have the sensation that you are going to pass out.This happened recently to former President Jimmy Carter.
Roger Adams a doctor of nutrition says dehydration most times is caused by being exposed to Extreme Temperatures over an extended Period Of Time. He adds that in addition to feeling light headed as if you are going to faint there may be other signs. You may also experience a headache, and impaired thinking before you feel as if you will lose consciousness.
This is because the delicate nerve tissues in your brain are to overheating.
Preventing dehydration
Should you find you have had exposure to extreme temperatures for a long period of time, there are steps you can take to prevent dehydration and possible heat stroke. Find a shady spot to sit down in, or go inside if possible. Also, make sure you drink plenty of water. This should cool down your internal temperature, and help you feel better. You can also remove your clothes and or take a cool shower or bath.
The best thing to do is not to allow your body get to the point of heat exhaustion in the first place. Make a habit of drinking plenty of water every day. This will ensure it is easier to obtain the necessary fluids during days with extreme temperatures. When it is hot, dress in clothing with light colors that are made from light weight materials, and wear a hat and glasses when exposed to direct sunlight.
If your body temperature begins overheating and rises too much, you may begin perspiring profusely and then stop sweating completely.These are dangerous signs that you may be on the verge of a heat stroke. Use the ounce of prevention that will prevent the pound of cure. Keep dehydration at bay by drinking lots of water on a regular basis. Your body temperature does not have to rise to dangerous levels. Use wisdom and caution and you should be alright for the rest of the summer.
