After many months of teasers posted to Instagram, Kat Von D has finally unveiled her up-and-coming, limited edition palette called Alchemist. The holographic compact that has been gracing social media pages since May was released this past weekend at The Makeup Show Chicago to a few lucky shoppers. It will be launching to the public in December and will retail for $32. This price is not too high considering that many of her previously released palettes have gone for $60.

The mysterious unicorn

Since some lucky makeup enthusiasts were able to get their hands on the palette over the past weekend, the wait is now officially over to see what's inside. Alchemist consists of four highly pigmented, iridescent shades: Emerald (green), Sapphire (blue), Amethyst (violet), and Opal (pink). Each shade is designed to be used in one of two ways. They can be used individually as highlighters, or they can be used over the top of your favorite eyeshadow or lipstick to completely transform the color. They are marketed as duo-chrome colors, which means they appear different based on the way outside light strikes them.

Alchemist seems to be a fitting name for such a palette as Merriam-Webster defines alchemy as "a power or process that changes or transforms something in a mysterious or impressive way."

Kat Von D

Tattoo artist Kat Von D was approached by sephora back 2008 to launch her own makeup line. Beginning with a concept of four red lipsticks, the perfect shades of red, the makeup line took flight. Launching some of the world's most famous liquid eyeliners and heavy-duty concealers, Kat Von D has quickly become a staple in many makeup gurus' arsenals. The line prides itself on being cruelty-free, never testing any product or ingredient on animals. They also produce many vegan products with #veganalert. This means that no animal products or by-products have gone into a particular finished product.

Makeup artists may be featured on Kat Von D's Instagram account by using the hashtag KVDLook. Kat goes through the photos personally every month and chooses who gets featured. Perhaps using the new Alchemist palette will get a few lucky beauty lovers a spot on her highly coveted page.
