When it comes to Hollywood reboots, the creators behind the Jurassic Park franchise seem to have the perfect formula for hitting the nostalgia factor. It's been a year since the second installment of the sequel trilogy, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, was released, and the final film is currently in the development stages of pre-production. Bryce Dallas Howard, who plays Claire Dearing, recently spoke with MTV News and hinted that a few of the original cast members may be coming back for the final movie. Since Jeff Goldblum, who famously portrayed Dr.
Ian Malcolm, made an appearance in the last film, it wouldn't be a stretch to bring back other beloved characters.
Dr. Ellie Sattler
Speaking with ET, Laura Dern recently addressed the possibility of returning for Jurassic World III to reprise her role as Dr. Ellie Sattler. Although the actress has expressed excitement in coming back, she said in the interview, "I don't know. I have no idea."
She also revealed that she accidentally ran into Chris Pratt, who plays Owen Grady in the Jurassic World films, in a restaurant. Even though they had never met before, the two actors greeted each other like family with open arms.
As of now, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom director J.A. Bayona welcomed the idea of Dern appearing in a cameo.
However, nothing is set in stone just yet.
Dr. Alan Grant
Another big question fans have is whether or not Sam Neill, Dr. Alan Grant, will also be returning to the dinosaur series. When asked about it in the past, Neill has downplayed the idea, suggesting that Grant is dead already. However, Bryce Dallas Howard dropped his name during her televised tease of the potentially returning cast members.
Whether or not Neill will reprise his role is still unclear.
Other possible character returns
Since their minor cameo appearance in Jurassic Park II: Lost World with Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm, fans haven't seen Tim or Lex. Played by Joseph Mazzello and Ariana Richards, these kids were pretty important to the original plot.
They were the grandchildren of John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), the founder of the first Jurassic Park, and they managed to survive a run-in with a T-Rex and a pack of hungry velociraptors. Lex's computer hacking skills and Tim's extensive knowledge of dinosaurs were critical to that storyline. Perhaps they will be brought back in the third Jurassic World film.
There is also speculation that Muldoon, a park ranger and raptor wrangler played by Bob Peck, may have survived the "clever girl" attack. Although unlikely, it would be an interesting add-on into the final film.
To be directed by Colin Trevorrow and slated for release in 2021, other Jurassic World III details are being kept under lock and key.
