"Fortnite: Battle Royale" has been out for almost a year and a half and players that have been playing the game since day one have a far more superior skill set than those who have recently begun playing. Currently, "Fortnite: Battle Royale" is one of the most popular online games with over 200 million players and with a slew of content released every now and then, the game isn't going to lose its popularity any time soon.
Considering the nature of the Battle Royale genre, the winner in a 100-player match is almost always a seasoned player, giving newbies barely a chance of winning the game.
While it is completely understandable that an experienced player is going to be the king of the hill, new players often get eliminated in just a few seconds in each match.
This gap in experience gives new players no chance of improving their game unless they dedicate some time to practice, but a casual gamer might not be able to do so and this is one of the biggest reasons why new players leave the game. But now it seems like Epic Games is implementing a new method of matchmaking that will solve this problem.
Skill-based matchmaking in 'Fortnite'
After the release of the season 8 update in "Fortnite," many skilled players have reported that the skills of their opponents have suddenly boosted which leads to the suggestion that Epic Games might be testing new skill-based matchmaking in the game.
In January, a professional "Fortnite" player called "CLG Wish" tweeted that after the release of patch v7.10, every solo match ends like a scrim match.
There's been a hidden matchmaking update in the latest patch. Every solo i play today has been a scrim lobby.

I remember one company that did this with their game and killed it.
You guys ready for the same? @FortniteGame 🤡
Epic Games has yet to respond to these rumors but the community has different views on this new matchmaking system.
Some players think that it would be better to be matched with the same skilled players because losing to a more experienced player is not fair and beating a new player is not fair either. On the other hand, some players are of the opinion that the randomness in "Fortnite" is one of the factors which make it such a hit game.
Popular Twitch streamer Ninja also shared his opinion about this rumor and said that the players are just improving that is why there is too much competition in the game now.
While players patiently wait for Epic Games' response, some players have reported that they are receiving surveys from Epic Games and one of the questions in the survey asks players if “Fortnite Battle Royale should have matchmaking that separates brand new players from experienced players."

If skill-based matchmaking is added to "Fortnite," it is going to have a big impact on the game because several games in the past, including "Destiny," had to face massive popularity downfall due to this reason.
