Fans of Sid Meier's popular Civilization video game franchise are about to get their turn-based strategy fix on-the-go with all the bells and whistles this November. 2K Games, the franchise's publisher, announced that "Civilization VI," the latest entry, will become available on the Nintendo Switch in the coming months.
A complete Civilization
The announcement for the new port was first made on the official site, though it has since been taken down for an unknown reason. According to the details that were shared in the post, "Civilization VI" for the Nintendo Switch will be a complete port that includes all of the game's current content and patches.
IGN notes that The port will also include four extra packs of content including Poland, Australia, Persian and Macedon, and Vikings, and allow up to four world leaders to team up for some local co-op and competitive multiplayer modes.
The first console port
Surprises aside, the Nintendo Switch doesn't mark the first time that the video game has been playable on a portable platform. Prior to Nintendo's hybrid console, "Civilization VI" made its way onto Apple's iPad device during last year's holiday season. However, the latest port marks the first time this entry in the popular franchise is playable on a console. Compared to the upcoming Nintendo Switch version, the iPad version lacked downloadable content and powerful graphics.
As stated, the Nintendo Switch port will include the latest improvements which will indefinitely put the iPad version at a disadvantage. That said, however, it is certainly a win for gamers to have the franchise come to the Nintendo Switch.
About the game
"Civilization VI" marks the thirteenth title in the franchise. Like its predecessors, this entry is a turn-based strategy video game with 4X driven mechanics.
Players must focus on managing an empire and explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate their way through the game world. The game was developed by Firaxis Games, the same studio behind other popular strategy Video Games including "XCOM" and other Sid Meier titles.
"Civilization VI" is was initially released for Windows and Mac OS in October 2016, and later arrived for Linux and iPad in February 2017 and December 2017 respectively. The video game is scheduled to arrive for the Nintendo Switch on November 16, 2018.
