Street Fighter finally celebrated its birthday this week reaching their 30Th Anniversary. Capcom decided to team up with iam8bit to release a fresh and working Snes cartridge for Street Fighter 2. However, if you want to relive your glory days you'll need $100, and you have to be one of the first 5,500 potential customers lucky enough to buy this. You're going to have to be lucky if you plan on buying this, what do I mean by this?

Iam8bit has a warning label on the product making it very clear they aren't responsible for fire damage of any kind. Capcom also isn't liable for damages and Nintendo isn't part of this promotion either, so if something happens to your $100 product, you are on your own.

Why this might turn people away from purchasing this.

For starters, the insidious warning label speaks for itself if your SNES or cartridge catches fire you won't be compensated in any way. This warning is in place because SNES systems are old and vary from a degree of overheating issues. Iam8bit does not want to be responsible for the damages because they don't know what systems are safe or unsafe.

All they know is that you have a vintage SNES. Not only will the price turn people away but not being able to send back your damaged product is worrying, and you also could lose your SNES system which is more money lost. Iam8bit claims the cartridge is safe to use and has been tested, but they also mentioned you should keep a fire extinguisher nearby while you play.

Iam8bit made a statement on Twitter saying the following: "We're only selling a cartridge. We can't be responsible for the state of the hardware it is being played on." They understand consumer concern, but they want to make it clear that they are not responsible for the damages to your system or the product.

Is this worth the money and risk?

The cartridge will be released in two different colors. One set of 4,500 cartridges will be Opaque Ryu Headband Red. The last set of 1,000 will be a translucent glow-in-the-dark Blanka Green. These will be shipped at the end of November, and if you already have the Street Fighter 2 edition for the SNES, you probably don't need this. For the people who are thinking about buying this, you should be aware that you are paying more and are at risk for fire damage. If that doesn't bother you, it is available for purchase on the iam8bit store page. You can purchase two per customer so there might not be a lot left considering people might want to resell this.
