The much-awaited Deathmatch game modes have finally arrived in “Overwatch” today. The new arcade modes are released alongside Patch 1.14. The new modes are now available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. There are also existing maps in the game where players can enjoy these recently released modes.
Deathmatch modes
Blizzard announced in the early part of August that it is introducing new arcade modes in “Overwatch” dubbed as Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch. These were later made available in the game’s Public Test Realm. The new modes scrapped the objective capturing and payload pushing, what only matters is killing now.
The two modes slightly differ from each other. Deathmatch is a free-for-all style of game. In this mode, eight players destroy each other until one player scores 20 points. Blizzard has launched a brand new scoreboard intended for the mode. A player scores a point for every final blow landed on the enemy. On the other hand, a point is deducted for each point of environmental damage acquired, which can happen from dropping off a cliff.
Meanwhile, Team Deathmatch is composed of two teams of four players. The teams will destroy each other and whoever gets to score a total of 30 points will win the match. It has a new scoreboard designed for this specific mode to track points.
Maps
Blizzard has also released a new map for the two new arcade modes.
Players can enjoy this killing-spree in Chateau Guillard. However, there are also existing maps in the game that players can enjoy called Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch. Among these include Hanamura, Horizon Lunar Colony, and the Temple of Anubis. Maps such as Volskaya Industries, Dorado, and Eichenwalde can also be the place to set these new arcade modes.
Other existing maps where players can play Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch are Hollywood, King’s Row, and Widowmaker’s map, Château Guillard.
There are existing maps in the game that can accommodate the new mode, however, it is only limited to Team Deathmatch arcade mode. This includes Black Forest, Castillo, and Necropolis.
In addition, the map Ecopoint: Antarctica, which is the station map where her animated short happened, can also accommodate Team Deathmatch. Blizzard has made several adjustments on some of these maps in order to provide a better gaming experience to players who would like to play the new modes on the maps.
Patch 1.14
Aside from the new arcade modes, Patch 1.14 also contains heroes’ changes. Among these includes Junkrat, Orisa, Roadhog, and Widowmaker. The patch also rolled out bug fixes on maps, heroes, and User Interface. Players can also change the color and opacity of their crosshair with the release of this patch in the “Overwatch” live servers.
