One of the most highly anticipated yearly game events of the year, Gamescom, is well underway. Along with it comes news from Blizzard, which announced a new map arriving at "Overwatch" very soon. According to Polygon, the announcement was made during Monday's Gamescom event, when Blizzard showcased a trailer for a new map that the game will receive soon. "Overwatch" was originally released back in May last year, and since then, Blizzard has been continuously updating the game with new content.

What is Junkertown?

The new map for "Overwatch" called Junkertown is said to be an Escort map set in the "harsh and unforgiving Australian Outback." Here, players will get to explore a destroyed omnium that has become a home to Junkers, who is described as "lawless scavengers." Junkertown is where they dig up the omnium's skeleton for any valuable materials.

When not working, Junkers spend their time at the Scrapyard, an arena where they face-off with each other for money and glory.

Junkertown missions to be explored

When Junkertown arrives to the PTR and to the game, "Overwatch" players can expect a lot of obstacles to explore. According to Engadget, Junkertown is a "country devastated by nuclear weapons used on the Omnic robots," leaving the country to turn into a "devastated no-man's-land." Those who attended Gamescom were the ones to first explore the new map, which will head to the PTR on a yet unspecified date. In the meantime, players can check out the trailer to find out more.

Blizzard introduces new map

To make things even more interesting for players, Blizzard came up with an animated short to introduce the new "Overwatch" map called Junkertown.

In it, players can see Junkrat and Roadhog introduce their homeland of Junkertown. This won't be the last animated shortcoming from the studio, as Polygon reported that Blizzard will release two more short films titled "The Last Bastion" and "Infiltration" on Wednesday, August 23. As with any new content, players should expect Junkertown to hit the PTR before it arrives at the game.

"Overwatch" has been awarded Game of the Year at The Game Awards, D.I.C.E. Awards, and Game Developers Choice Awards, and has been recognized by various publications. It is now playable on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game is directed by Jeffrey Kaplan, Chris Metzen, and Aaron Keller. gamescom is currently ongoing in Cologne, Germany, and will conclude on Saturday, August 26.
