If there is a title that easily acquired massive success this 2017, it is no other than “Horizon Zero Dawn.” In fact, its inflating success is unlikely to be topped by any game this year. This is definitely good news to the growing fans of the hit action role-playing game.

Being a new player in the scene, “Horizon Zero Dawn” felt inferior during its initial release, as it was overshadowed by other big games. However, its consistency in providing the tech giant a decent sales track over the course of months has been its ultimate fuel. As of this writing, it is currently sitting at 3.5 million sold copies.

A major franchise in the making

Obviously, this would have been impossible had the game gone astray. Since it went the other way around, both publisher Sony and developer Guerilla Games are set to bring a franchise out of the title. In an interview with The Telegraph, the company’s very own president Shawn Layden revealed some interesting details about the game and their plans of supporting.

Layden iterated that the numbers accumulated by “Horizon Zero Dawn” since its release are enough to convince them into creating a franchise. “The reception for the game has been fantastic,” he said. The Sony Interactive Entertainment American (SIEA) president applauded Guerilla Games’ boss Hermen Hulst for bringing the game to the company.

He even went to note how keen Hulst is when it comes to details concerning the title and that he always has a concrete knowledge of what he wants to do with the game. Above all, Layden confirmed that they will be in “the Horizon business for a long time.”

The future of the game is bright

Indeed, Sony has started revealing its plans for “Horizon Zero Dawn.” It might have even started back at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in which they revealed the game’s forthcoming DLC titled “The Frozen Wilds.” This content is set way beyond the northern mountains, particularly on the borderlands of the Banuk tribe.

This frozen setting becomes a new threat for the game’s main protagonist named Aloy. Nonetheless, she is still very determined to solve the mystery around the lands.

The aforesaid content will arrive with additional contents. Although nothing specific has been revealed, they are likely to be new storylines, characters and more experiences developed specifically to convey the beauty and coldness of the new location. The DLC is expected to hit PlayStation 4 later on this year.
