It’s been a pretty rough year for PlayStation fans this year. Due to a global chip shortage and the pandemic, some were unable to get their hands on the PlayStation 5 console. But for those who did, they had a wealth of great PS5 games to dive into like a duck in a vault full of gold coins.

Of course, more PS5 games are on the way in 2022 to fill the vault that’s still looking kinda deep. And there are some true gems on the way. But only the most anticipated PS5 games can make the list here.

N.B. It’s also interesting to note that some of these titles will simultaneously land on the PlayStation 4.

1

‘God of War: Ragnarok’ (PS4/PS5) (TBD 2022)

The adventures of the Nordic God-killing duo have only just begun. ‘God of War: Ragnarok’ marks the ninth entry in the hack n’ slash franchise set three years after the last game that ended on quite the cliffhanger. After learning of the impending earth-shattering event known as Ragnarok, Kratos and his son must embark on a new quest to prevent it.

2

‘Horizon Forbidden West’ (PS4/PS5) (Feb 18, 2022)

The sequel to ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’ was originally meant to launch this year, but was abruptly pushed to Feb 18, 2022. ‘Horizon Forbidden West’ takes its protagonist Aloy on a quest across the “Forbidden West,” a new map filled with new biomes and enemies, to find the source of a deadly virus. Combat, exploration and those sweet visuals have all been enhanced in this new action RPG.

3

‘Ghostwire: Tokyo’ (PS5) (TBD 2022)

‘Ghostwire: Tokyo’ is the product of a collaboration between developer Tango Gameworks and publisher Bethesda; a horror-themed first-person action title involving supernatural combat with spirits that have invaded Tokyo. The game stands out like a true work of art. It features beautiful visuals that capture the bright and colorful aesthetics of the Japanese city. As for its combat, it’s best described as “karate meets magic” and makes those colors pop out even more.

4

‘Gran Turismo 7’ (PS4/PS5) (Mar 4, 2022)

Another generation of PlayStation means another ‘Gran Turismo’ is on the horizon. Although it wasn’t a launch title for the PS5 last year, ‘Gran Turismo 7’ seems poised to break out in 2022 and leave other car simulators in the dust. It will achieve this by reviving many classic features. These include classic modes like GT Simulation and Driving School, classic racing tracks, and the returning dynamic time and weather effects to name a few.

5

‘SIFU’ (PS5) (Feb 8, 2022)

It’s been a long time coming for this upcoming beat-em-up game but the wait is almost over. Sifu seems to draw a lot of inspiration from most Kung Fu films but with a neat twist. The player’s character is on a quest to find the ones who murdered their family and will embark on an epic journey spanning years. They’ll gain more powerful moves as they age but will shed their own health along the way. From the sounds of it, this trade-off will make the game more challenging over time.
