"WandaVision" only gets stranger as the show has progressed, with the most recent one taking the town of West View into the 1980s. The previous episodes have gone from the 1950s to the 1970s with little touches of a darker reality pushing into Wanda's seemingly idealistic world. Episode four pushed the show's boundaries by leaving the sitcom town for the outside world, which followed the SWORD agency's agents as they tried to uncover the mystery.
Episode four also explains the presence of "Geraldine," who fans were previously told before the show's airing was really Monica Rambeau, daughter of Maria Rambeau from "Captain Marvel." The episode picks up directly after events in "Avengers: Endgame," when everyone reappeared after five years. Monica found herself back in her mom's hospital room only to discover that her mom died three years ago, two years after Monica disappeared.
"WandaVision" was the first official series to premiere on Disney+ as part of Marvel Studios Phase 4 plans, which features various new movies and shows. Other Marvel shows expected to hit the streamer includes "Loki" and "Secret Invasion." The series stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany as the titular "WandaVision," Teyonah Parris, Kat Dennings, and Randall Park.
The residents within West View include Debra Jo Rupp, Fred Melamed, Kathryn Hahn, Jolene Purdy, Asif Ali, Amos Glick, David Lengel, David Payton, and Emma Caulfield Ford.
Previously on 'WandaVision'
Episode four of "WandaVision" shows the strange reality breaks that Wanda experienced during the first three episodes with the helicopter, the man in the suit, and the voice on the radio all being explained. The answer to these simple details raises more questions than answers given, such as why objects that go into West View transform to match the decade. Fans also received their first look at the government agency SWORD, which serves as a replacement for SHIELD. When Monica (Teyonah Parris) gets the job to go to West View, she teams up with Jimmy Woo (Randall Park), who was last seen in "Ant-Man and the Wasp." Another familiar face that joins the team is Darcy (Kat Dennings), who was seen in the first two "Thor" movies.
"WandaVision" allows fans to see the progress both characters have made in the time that they haven't been seen. This allows fans to see how far these two have risen in the ranks of their individual professions. Darcy quickly figures out how to interpret the signal from West View, which allowed them to see the sitcom on an old TV set and for the SWORD agents to raise their own questions about Wanda's not-so-dead Vision.
Each episode of "WandaVision" successfully raises more questions and permits room for fans to come up with theories as to what could really be behind the sitcom takeover of West View. "WandaVision" doesn't shy away from making changes to the usual Marvel format and, in doing so, has created a truly original show.
Once Monica was kicked out of Wanda's town, fans received a peek at Wanda going from housewife to protector of the town. Monica rejoins the SWORD team alongside Woo and Darcy, who help her devise a plan to send a 1980s drone into the town to interact with Wanda. This goes according to plan until the Acting Director decides to take a shot at Wanda, which results in Wanda making her way through the wall and tossing the drone at SWORD agents' feet.
A new Pietro for 'WandaVision'
Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) looks fairly guilty as she makes her point known that she doesn't want trespassers to enter the town and isn't afraid to fight back. This behavior contrasts with her reaction when Vision (Paul Bettany) confronts her about what's really going on in West View and her own role in it.
Wanda claims she had nothing to do with what's happening and seems to genuinely have no idea what is taking place, which only raises more questions about if Wanda is even the one behind it all. Vision finally begins to put together that more is going on in West View when he gets a clue from his co-worker Norm. The co-worker is pulled out of his town persona by Vision long enough to tell him about a "her" keeping them trapped.
The most shocking surprise may also count as the biggest surprise, which comes at episode five. In the midst of a fight between Wanda and Vision about the town, the doorbell rings, and Wanda swears she had nothing to do with that and after answering the door, she's shocked to discover her brother.
Wanda's brother Pietro was last seen being killed at the hands of Ultron, which was mentioned in a previous episode by Monica. Only with the shocking arrival comes with an even more shocking catch. Her brother is no longer being played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson but by Evan Peters, who played a different version of the character in the "X-Men" movies.
After this shocking crossover, fans were left buzzing that no one expected, though, comes in the wake of Disney's acquirement of the "X-Men" world. It was immediately made clear through Darcy that this is not the same Pietro but an actual recast of Wanda's brother with an entirely new character. Darcy exclaimed upon seeing the new arrival that 'they recast Wanda's brother,' which made it officially canon and made for quite the cliffhanger.
Fans have theorized that this arrival could be the first peek at the Multiverse set to be explored in the next "Doctor Strange" movie. Marvel Studios made it clear in their announcements of "WandaVision" that it would set up for the movie though not necessary to watch in order.
Randall Park shares about Jimmy Woo
Jimmy Woo was an instant delight in "Ant-Man and the Wasp," with Randall Park delivering charm and humor in his dealings with Ant-Man. It was great to see him in "WandaVision," having risen in his profession and now has a job investigating this strange anomaly. Park shared with TVLine that Woo has gotten better at his job and has gotten more confident. The actor shared that the character is still sincere, earnest, and even vulnerable, with his love of magic safely in place, though having risen in the ranks.
Randall Park continues in the interview about how Woo and Darcy interact so well because they have great respect for each other and commonality in that both are oddballs. Both characters are skilled in their chosen fields, which the actor contributes to why the two work so well together and goes onto say that it's how they're opposite that makes them complement each other so well. Park contributes this to how the two are so different yet so in sync.
ScreenRant has reported buzz around the idea of a Jimmy Woo spin-off that is currently being pitched to Marvel Studios. The call for a spin-off initially began on social media from fans that want to see Jimmy Woo in his own show. The pitch suggests that the show would follow him and Darcy investigating other strange events after the West View anomaly.
The show would take on a vibe similar to the style of "The X-Files." The pitch originated with director Stephen Ford. Even actor Simu Liu took to social media to share that he's entirely on board with the spin-off and has volunteered to guest star. The actor will be seen in the upcoming Marvel movie "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings." Kat Dennings has commented on the pitch in an interview with Extra and said that if this "X-Files" styled show goes to series, she's totally on board. "WandaVision" showrunner Jac Schaeffer shared with ScreenRant that both Dennings and Park are skilled comedians and gushed about how gifted both of the two actors were. The showrunner also shared about the actors' styles, stating that Park enjoyed how his character would overshare, which is why they deemed that an important aspect to the character and how Dennings could make anything funny.
