Fans of fantasy and science fiction are getting a number of treats on Netflix next month. As a pre-Christmas gift, details of a number of new and returning series are included below.

George R.R. Martin’s 'Nightflyers' Season 1 – December 2 (formerly SyFy)
Penned by the author of “Game of Thrones” and set in 2093, the series features the most advanced ship ever built, taking scientists out on an expedition to make contact with alien life. Going beyond the edge of our solar system, farther out than humans have ever been before. However, the team and crew experience violent and terrifying events and start to question each other, along with their reclusive captain. Everyone soon realizes that real horror is not actually in outer space.
‘The Magicians’ Season 4 – December 16
This SyFy show was based on the novels by Lev Grossman and season four is coming to Netflix in December. In the last season, the characters succeed in their quest to bring magic back to the world. But it seems this was at a cost, as an unstoppable monster is now on the loose and the heroes of the show are stuck in our mundane world, where they believe they are DJ’s ad fashion editors, instead of wizards.
'The Witcher’ Season 1 – December 20
This debut season of the new fantasy epic stars Henry Cavill as the Witcher, Geralt of Rivia. Geralt is a mutated monster hunter, trying to find his place in our world, where people are often found to be more wicked than monsters are. I think ladies will agree, and the witcher certainly doesn’t exactly hurt the eyes!
‘Transformers Rescue Bots Academy’ Season 1 – December 23
This Hasbro animated series is for the kids, by sci-fi fans might find themselves watching beside them. The premise is that five robots learn about the value of teamwork. They go into training in various simulations on Earth to become professional rescue bots. Said to be totally safe for kids from five and up, the show teaches them lessons about teamwork and more.
‘Lost in Space’ Season 2 – December 24
Just in time for Christmas, the reboot of the sci-fi show “Lost in Space” heads into a second season. For those who didn’t watch season one, the story is about the Robinson family, space colonists trying to find a new home, who encounter a rip in the space-time continuum, which forces them to crash on an unknown planet. They now have to fight the alien environment in an effort to escape from the planet and head for somewhere safe.
