"Days Of Our Lives" fans are in for a treat. Chandler Massey is returning to the NBC soap opera as his fan favorite character, Will Horton. The news broke on Monday, as Massey confirmed that he would be headed back to Salem to reprise his iconic character. However, there is one big hurdle to jump. Will Horton was tragically killed off by Ben Weston back in 2015. Of course, "DOOL" fans know that dead characters often come back to life in the soap opera world, but Will's return should be as joyful as it is shocking.

Will Horton is alive and headed back to Salem

According to Entertainment Weekly, Chandler Massey has already returned to the "Days of our Lives" set. Massey began working last month, and fans will officially see Will Horton back in Salem sometime in September. "I am so excited to be bringing Will back to Salem," Chandler said, adding that there are some major storylines ahead for viewers. "I can't wait for the fans to see what we have planned. You won't want to miss it," Massey promises.

Sonny and Paul will be stunned by Will's return

"Days of our Lives" fans will remember that Chandler Massey exited the role of Will Horton back in 2013 after winning three Daytime Emmy's for playing the soap's first openly gay character.

After coming out of the closet in 2011, Will met and fell in love with Sonny Kiriakis. The two eventually married but had a rocky relationship after Massey's exit and Guy Wilson took over the role. Will was unfaithful to Sonny with a then new character, Paul, who was later revealed as Sonny's former lover. Now that Will is gone, Sonny and Paul have moved on together, and are currently taking their relationship to the next level.

Will's return will not only mean a shock to his family members, but also to Sonny and Paul, who will find themselves in a love triangle with Will yet again.

Alison Sweeney is also set to reprise her role as Will's mother, Sami Brady

Meanwhile, Will Horton's mother, Sami Brady, played by Alison Sweeney, is also set to return to the soap.

Sami will be back in Salem for a couple of months, and will likely share some very emotional and heartfelt scenes with Chandler Massey's Will. "Days of our Lives" fans are already on the edge of their seats waiting to find out how and why Will Horton will be back in Salem, and what the consequences of his re-emergence will bring to the people closest to him. With all the changes that "DOOL" has seen over the past few years, fans will certainly welcome back a familiar face to the cast.
