On August 31, Motorola announced the long-awaited Moto X4 at IFA 2017. The original Moto X was launched back in 2013, and before ceasing to roll out other devices in the well-received 'X' series, Motorola had released quite a few smartphones in the series. Moto X Force, which was launched in November 2015, was the last smartphone in the series. But Lenovo may have breathed new life into the Moto X lineup with the debut of the Moto X4.

Price and availability

The Moto X4 is slated to hit the shelves in fall. The device will be up for grabs for European customers later this month. The mid-range smartphone is expected to come bearing a price tag of EUR 399, which converts roughly to $475.

Decent design

The phone has been launched in a couple of color options including Sterling Blue and Super Black. The Moto X4 features a metal unibody, a rear-mounted dual camera setup inside an obtruding round-shaped ring protection, with the company's batwing logo exactly under it.

There is a fingerprint scanner right under the home button. The right edge of the phone houses the volume and the power keys.

It also features on-screen navigation buttons. The bottom edge of the device sports 3.5mm audio jack and the USB Type-C port.

Specs

The Moto X4 supports a single-SIM slot and will run on Android 7.1 Nougat. It sports a 5.2-inch Corning Gorilla Glass protected, Full-HD LTPS IPS display with 1080x1920 pixels resolution and 424ppi pixel density.

Under the hood, it packs a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 octa-core SoC coupled with Android 508 GPU. It has 3GB of RAM with 32GB of Internal storage, which can further be expanded up to 2TB with the help of the device's microSD card slot. Motorola might even introduce a 4GB RAM / 64 GB storage alternatives in select regions.

The Moto X4 comes with a rear-mounted dual camera setup and boasts 12MP dual autofocus sensor paired with 1.4-micron pixels and f/2.0 aperture.

There's also an 8MP ultra-wide angle sensor paired with 1.12-micron pixels, f/2.2 aperture and a 120-degree field of view.

The aforesaid dual camera setup features a color correlated temperature (CCT) dual-LED flash as well as Phase-detection autofocus (PDAF). It brings in an array of awe-inspiring features such as best shot, slow-motion video, panorama mode, scan barcodes/QR codes/Business cards, landmark/object recognition, spot colour, background replacement (beta), selective Black & White (beta), Selective Focus, depth detection and depth effects, professional mode, and ultra-wide angle shot.

For the selfie addicts, the Moto X4 offers a 16MP front shooter, which comes with f/2.0 aperture, flash support, and whopping 1-micron pixels.

The camera has features such as professional mode, beautification mode, face filters, selfie panorama, and adaptive low light mode.

The device is backed by a robust 3000mAh battery, which according to Motorola lasts all day, and also supports fast charging. The phone offers a slew of connectivity options like FM radio support, 4G LTE, GLONASS, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (dual band, 2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, and NFC.

Features

The selling point for the Moto X4's is that it comes with Google Assistant support that offers a choice for voice-based search and Amazon Alexa. Furthermore, the device is IP68 water and dust resistant and comes with a new three-finger screenshot gesture. It also has an inbuilt password manager dubbed Moto Key.
