While smartphone enthusiasts continue to wait for the launch of Samsung's Galaxy S9 smartphone, more clues pointing towards an imminent arrival of another Galaxy-branded smartphone has surfaced online.

The 2018 version of the Galaxy A5 is expected to launch sometime in 2018. The device is an update of the current generation Galaxy A5 that was launched earlier this year.

Multiple reports suggest the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2018) is just around the corner. The speculation stems from the device's recent appearance on the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) listing.

The smartphone was spotted on the FCC website bearing a model number A530N.

According to a report by India Today, the upcoming smartphone could turn out to be poor man's Galaxy S8. Some earlier reports even predicted that the handset will come with an Infinity Display identical to what the South Korean handset maker has used in the Galaxy S8 and the Note 8 smartphones.

Aside from making an appearance on FCC website, the Galaxy A5 has also been spotted on the company's official website. This was originally detected by tech tipster Roland Quandt.

Specifications and features

The Galaxy A5 (2018) will sport a 5.5-inch display (1080x2160 pixel) with 18:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the looming smartphone is likely to pack Exynos 7885 processor, paired with 4GB of RAM. The device will come running on Android 8.0 Oreo.

Samsung confirmed that it is currently working on the Galaxy A5 (2018) through a support page on its official website. However, the listing did not divulge the handset's specifications.

The existing version of the Samsung Galaxy A5 has a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display, which is shielded with Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The device is powered by the company's own Exynos 7880 Octa, Octa-core 1.9 GHz processor and packs 3GB of RAM coupled with 32GB of storage capacity.

Moreover, the smartphone comes with an IP68 certification.

In other words, it is dust and waterproof. On the photography front, the Galaxy A5 (2017) has a 16MP f/1.9 primary camera in the back and a 16 MP front shooter for the selfie addicts.

It offers a slew of connectivity options including GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, and 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi just to name a few. Since it features a USB 2.0 port, the transfer speeds are quite reduced. It is backed by A 3,000 mAh battery. More details about the upcoming smartphone are likely to surface online ahead of its launch.
