nokia, backed by HMD Global took the tech world by storm when it launched its arrival in the smartphone market. At the World Mobile Congress 2017, the tech giant took the wraps off its Nokia 6, 5 and 3 smartphones and also announced the return of the Nokia 3310 in a new avatar. Reports indicated that the company planned on adding new high-end smartphones in 2017 to its line-up, directly in competition with Apple’s iPhone 8 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835

The latest leak published by French publication, Frandroid claims that it has in its possession, the prototype of the HMD’s purportedly flagship smartphone, the Nokia 9. The report reveals that the device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with 4GB RAM. The article further reveals that the smartphone will sport a 5.3-inch WQHD display with 2560x1440 resolution and have 64GB storage capacity. The image provided by the publication also shows a noticeable dual camera setup at the back of the device.

Device will run on Android Nougat

Nokia’s upcoming smartphone also made news on the Chinese benchmarking website AnTuTu that corroborated earlier leaked specifications including the WQHD display and the Qualcomm Snapdragron 835 processor.

The device is also said to be running on Android 7.1.1.The device cropped up in a newer variant on the popular benchmarking site GeekBench that suggested a Nokia 9 with 6GB RAM. This has led to speculation that the smartphone might come in more than a couple of variants.Following the announcement of a strategic partnership between HMD Global and Carl Zeiss, the global leader in photography lenses and camera equipment, there are high chances that the Nokia 9 will be the first Android smartphone to sport the Carl Zeiss lens.

Among various other leaks, what stood out recently was a set of images, depicting what seems to be a silicone protective case for the Nokia 9. The images showed transparent cases available in three colors – black, blue and brown.

This possibly suggests a new shift in exterior design by Nokia and what lies beneath it. The design concept corresponds with earlier news of a vertical dual-camera with additional sensors and also a microphone. The cutout on the silicone case also suggests a regular 3.5mm headphone jack, a power butter and a volume rocker on the right edge of the smartphone. Additional cutouts at the bottom were most likely for a USB port and a speaker grill. With teasers playing out with every passing day and no confirmed release date yet, the Nokia 9 continues to intrigue smartphone aficionados as to what’s really in store. Perhaps, the third quarter of this year will tell.
