Redmond tech giant Microsoft has been rumored to be working on a new smartphone - dubbed Surface phone -since 2016. The company was expected to launch the device last year. However, that did not take place. Nonetheless, it gave the company enough time to work on the device and ensure quality. The firm is expected to launch the device by the end of this year, and it's quite natural for speculations and rumors to flood the internet just before launch.
The device will have three variants
Several reports have been indicating that the upcoming Surface Phone might come in three different variants.
Each of these devices will be targeted towards specific consumers. These three options namely, ‘Consumer Edition,’ ‘Business Edition,’ and ‘Enthusiast Edition,’ are all specially built to cater to the needs of the particular users. As far as the specifications of the smartphone are concerned, the upcoming Microsoft Surface Phone will most probably pack a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with 1,440 x 2,560 Quad-HD resolutions.
Rumored specs and features
Moreover, there is a high possibility that the smartphone might end up sporting an Edge-to-edge display as well. It has also been suggested that the smartphone might be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC. Since the same processor also comes equipped in OnePlus 5, Google’s speculated Pixel 2 and Samsung Galaxy S8, S8 Plus smartphones, it is quite obvious that the Microsoft Surface Phone will fall in direct competition with the devices.
On the storage front, the upcoming Microsoft Surface Phone is expected to pack 6GB of RAM along with 128GB of internal storage. On the camera front, the next device is expected to pack a 12MP rear sensor along with an 8MP front snapper as well. On the connectivity front, the Microsoft Surface Phone will most probably feature a USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and other essential facilities.
Microsoft earlier this year also filed for a foldable technology patent. Following which, experts started predicting that the firm might be working on a new foldable smartphone, believed to be the Microsoft Surface Phone. However, the company hasn’t hinted anything ever since. As for the pricing, the device might cost anywhere around $699 to $1,100.
Since there are three variants scheduled to arrive under the same banner, they will most probably vary in pricing. Microsoft hasn’t provided any confirmation regarding this matter. It remains to be seen what exactly will take place once the formal procedure starts unfolding.
